Candle Care

How to Get the Best From Your Wicker Lane Candle

Our candles are lovingly hand poured using natural soy wax, so a little care will help you enjoy a cleaner, longer, and more even burn. Follow these simple steps to make the most of every candle.

🔥 1. The First Burn Is the Most Important

Soy wax has a memory! Allow your candle to burn until the entire surface has melted to the edges of the jar.
This prevents tunnelling and ensures an even burn every time.

Recommended first burn: 2–4 hours.

✂️ 2. Always Trim the Wick

Before every burn, trim the wick to 5mm. This helps:

  • Reduce soot

  • Prevent mushrooming

  • Create a cleaner, steadier flame

Use wick trimmers or normal scissors—both work well.

🕯️ 3. Burn Time Per Session

To keep your candle at its best:

  • Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time

  • Allow the candle to cool fully before relighting

This protects the wick and extends the overall life of the candle.

🌙 4. Candle Placement

Place your candle on a heat-resistant, stable surface, away from:

  • Drafts

  • Open windows

  • Air vents

  • Curtains or other soft furnishings

  • Do not use the lid as a coaster

A stable environment ensures a consistent, safe burn.

🔒 5. Safety First

For peace of mind and safe enjoyment:

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets

  • Do not move the candle while lit

  • Stop burning when 10mm of wax remains

  • Extinguish the candle carefully and do not use the lid to extinguish it

  • Do not replace the lid until the candle and the wax has fully cooled

🌿 6. Natural Wax Variations

Because we use 100% natural soy wax, you may occasionally notice:

  • Frosting or a white, frosty film

  • Slight surface texture changes

These natural variations do not affect performance or scent—they are simply the charm of real soy wax without additives.

♻️ 7. Reusing Your Candle Jar

Once your candle has finished:

  1. Let the remaining wax cool completely

  2. Place the jar in warm, soapy water

  3. Remove leftover wax and the wick tab

  4. Wash and reuse your jar

Perfect for storage, small plants, or decorative use.

⚠️ 8. Important Safety Warnings

🔥 The candle jar gets hot
Do not touch or move the candle when lit or when the wax is liquid. Allow the jar to cool completely before handling.

🌡️ Risk of hot wax burns
If hot wax comes into contact with the skin, cool the area immediately under cold running water and seek medical attention if necessary.

⚕️ Allergic reactions
Our fragrance oils comply with safety regulations, but allergy-prone individuals may experience skin irritation when handling liquid wax or fragrance. If irritation occurs, wash with soap and water and seek medical advice.
